DJ Mixman's Biography
I have had the pleasure of playing at venues around London and around the UK, like seOne, Ministry of Sound, Hidden, Jacks, Camden Palace, Renaissance Rooms, The Colosseum, Factory (Kind of my home), Heaven, and Renaissance Rooms for promoters like Raindance, Bliss, Hysteria, Innovation, Demolition, Energize, Bangin VS Kaotic (residency), Old Skool Days, Origin - The History of Hardcore, Out of this World, Happy Nation's Free / £1 Parties, Hardcore Xpression, Illicit, Bangers & Mashed, Evolution, Nemesis, Flabbergast, Venom, Twisted Techno, History of Hardcore, Epidemik, Raindance VS Tasty, Dance Mission & Illicit VS Energy Rush.
My sets are random. Sometimes a bit bonkers.
I turn up with 2 or 3 boxes of vinyl, pick one to roll with when I'm about to begin, then see where the set takes me. I might launch in to some Bouncy Techno, some over-the-top '96 cheese, then straight in to some (almost) upfront Hardcore with some classic D&B thrown in. None of that 32 bar switch either. If I can, I'll start the next mix sooner than expected, and if I think it's going to work, I'll double-drop it for good measure.
Originally, I wasn't really musically minded, but this changed in the early 90s after discovering London's pirate radio. By the time Unity 88.4 was kicking out Hardcore, it was ruling my life just as it was with all of my friends at the time. Music was suddenly every part of our social life, our bond, and the basis of our group... "Happy Nation" as it started to be called in 1992. I have picked up other tastes through the years like Classic D&B, Oldskool, Bouncy Techno, Hard House & Trance - But Hardcore is my passion. Being at school in the early 90's, I was late in picking up my first vinyl and decks so it wasn't until 1995 that I finally gave it a go at spinning some tunes. At the same time, other Happy Nation members like DJ Trixta & Nipper were playing, and my now famous bedroom became more of an arena. By 1995, we were raving heavily, addicted to Dreamscape mainly, Slammin Vinyl, United Dance, and what were to become the best days of my life, Labyrinth! It is a regret of mine that I did not get the chance to experience any of the Scottish scene back then.
